Description
Crispy golden mozzarella sticks with melted cheese inside, made in an air fryer using a double-breadcrumb coating. Freeze-coated sticks ensure a crunchy, non-soggy result in under 10 minutes.
Ingredients
Large egg, 1
Italian seasoning, 1 tsp
Panko breadcrumbs, 1 cup
Salt, 1/2 tsp
Mozzarella sticks (whole milk), 8
Non-stick cooking spray (olive oil-based recommended)
Wax paper
Instructions
Combine panko, Italian seasoning, and salt in a shallow bowl
Whisk the egg in another bowl
Coat mozzarella sticks in egg, then press into breadcrumb mixture
Arrange on wax paper and freeze 30-60 minutes
Repeat egg and breadcrumb coating, then freeze 30-60 minutes
Preheat air fryer to 390°F (199°C)
Lightly spray the basket with non-stick spray
Place frozen sticks in a single layer
Cook 6-8 minutes until golden
Notes
Freezing after both coatings prevents soggy texture
Use vacuum-sealed cheese for moisture balance
Space sticks 1+ inch apart for even cooking
Double-coat four times for extra crispiness (advanced)
Check if coatings resist sticking before air frying
